IFPTE's 61st Triennial Constitutional Convention was held July 7 to 11, 2024 in New Orleans. This year's theme was Honouring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future. In attendance from SCMMA, Local 222 were Jazmin Evers (Vice President) and Anna Cole (Secretary).
Highlights of convention business were the reelection of Matt Biggs as IFPTE President, the reelection of Gay Henson as IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer, a plenary speech from Canadian Labour Congress President Bea Bruske, and a near unanimous vote in favour of IFPTE opposing the continued Bell/MTS job reductions in Manitoba which have affected TEAM members (SCMMA's sister local in Winnipeg) since 2017.
In addition to convention business, SCMMA attended workshops on evaluating the economics of a collective bargaining agreement, mental health, communications and campaigns, and race relations. SCMMA's delegates also attended the Canadian Caucus and the Women's Caucus. At the Canadian Caucus, Michelle Johnston and Richard Mahé were reelected as IFPTE Canadian Area Vice Presidents.
